Habitat Announces Free Weatherization Program

Habitat for Humanity of the Mississippi Gulf Coast (HFHMGC) is looking for qualified homeowners willing to participate in a FREE weatherization program! HFHMGC is taking part in the Weatherization Innovation Pilot Program (WIPP) with Habitat for Humanity International and the US Department of Energy. The grant allows for weatherization of up to 40 homes through July 2013.

To be eligible for the WIPP, applicants must meet income eligibility requirements and the home must pass health and safety standards.

Gulf Coast Renaissance Corporation Launches Green Loan Fund

Gulf Coast Renaissance Corporation (GCRC) recently launched the GREEN LOAN FUND, a fund which allows approved homeowners in the lower six counties the opportunity to borrow up to $15,000 for hurricane mitigation improvements, energy efficiencies and modifications according to the Americans with Disabilities Act compliance guidelines. All potential applicants are required to take an on-line home assessment. For more information and to complete a home assessment click HERE.

Mississippi Recreational Trails Program Application Available

PRESS RELEASE – Mississippi Recreational Trails Program Application

The Outdoor Recreation Grants Division (ORG) would like to thank everyone again that submitted a FY 2012 Recreational Trails Program (RTP) application. Thirty-nine (39) RTP applications were received requesting a total of $4,698,379.72.

The recommended RTP applications were submitted to Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) in August 2012 for funding. As of this date not all have been cleared through the Mississippi Department of Transportation – Environmental Division – Environmental Class of Action Determination Form ENV-160.

As soon as approval is received from FHWA, the applicants will be notified of the awarded 2012 RTP funds. Due to this delay – all Recreational Trail Program applications that were received in 2012 will automatically remain on file for 2013 Recreational Trail Program funds.

It is with pleasure the Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks, (ORG) opens the Mississippi Recreational Trails Program 2012/ 2013 Funding Cycle.

For the current funding cycle, projects that provide for non-motorized uses, the minimum grant award will be $8,000 and the maximum grant award will be $100,000. Due to the limited number of motorized projects the maximum grant award depends on funds available.

The RTP package includes general program information and the application. Please read the general program information before making an application for funds. The application should be received by this office no later than 4:00 pm, Thursday, March 28, 2013. With this letter, I encourage any city, county, state and/or federal agency, college/university, recreation district, or nonprofit conservation organization to apply for Recreational Trails Program funds.

Starting March 29, 2013 – submitted applications will be reviewed and scored by ORG Staff. ORG staff will meet with the RTP Advisory Committee for recommendations. RTP Applications that have been selected for RTP funding will be submitted to Federal Highway Administration for approval. The timeframe for the approval from Federal Highway Administration can vary. Once approval has been received all RTP applicants will be notified of the results.

BAY ST. LOUIS — Heather Adams and her two children watched the sturdy cedar home built by her grandparents tear apart in Hurricane Katrina, forcing them to flee in the driving wind to a relative’s brick home nearby.

She knows better than most the value of the home she hopes to move her family into in March. They will occupy the first house for which Bay-Waveland Habitat for Humanity expects to receive Fortified certification. The certification qualifies the house for wind insurance discounts and also means it should withstand winds of 150 miles per hour.
